Faux Painting

Faux painting is an advanced and recently introduced form of coloring which can give that exceptional look to the overall appearance of the room. The faux painting technique is the ideal one for bringing that warm, aged Italian fresco look complete with cracks. This new form of color and texture in the room has the capability of unifying the furniture along with lowering the feel of high ceiling. Among the many available colors a warm butterscotch color is the one which can add the warmth and interest to the bedroom that looked cold and impersonal with severe white walls.

Steps of the faux painting technique

Faux painting is quite easy to do and now a days people are seen trying this technique in their home without hiring any professional painter. Anyone and everyone can apply faux paint to decorate the walls of the house and that too quite easily and without taking much effort. The following is a detailed step by step procedure of faux painting:

* The first step will be to paint the wall with a clean and fat white paint and then wait until it gets dried up.

* It will be advised to use a flat latex paint. Then after deciding on to which color to be applied, one should start mixing the preferred color with water in a ratio of two parts paint to one part of water.

* After that a hundred percent cotton rag should be dipped into the paint and should start rubbing on the wall. The rubbing should be in a criss-cross motion in order to layer the paint. This should cover the whole white portion of the wall leaving no streaks. After this the wall should be left untouched till it totally dries.

* The above step should be repeated with paint and rag to build up another layer of color. Then it should be left as it is to let it dry completely.

* Then the paint should be mixed to color the cracks. The base of the mixture should be the colored wall paint and there is a need to add brown acrylic paint to darken it. Then water must be added in a ratio of two parts of water to one part of the paint.

* Then simply by using a drawing brush one should start loosely painting the cracks in a somewhat jiggly line. The crack must have to be thicker at the top and thinner towards the end.

In this following this procedure involving some of the simplest steps one can do faux painting in any of the room of the house as well as garage or office.
